The Uniqueness of 36!
A Lenormand deck has 36 cards, and every time it's shuffled, the cards land in one specific order out of every possible arrangement. The count of all possible arrangements of 36 distinct cards is written 36! ("36 factorial") — 36 × 35 × 34 × ... × 2 × 1.
That's a 42-digit number. For comparison, scientists estimate there are roughly 1024 stars in the observable universe — a 25-digit figure. The number of possible Lenormand shuffles is about a trillion trillion trillion times larger than that.
In practice, this means any thorough shuffle of a real 36-card Lenormand deck produces an order that has, in all likelihood, never occurred before in the history of the deck's use — and never will again. Each spread is, for all practical purposes, mathematically one-of-a-kind.
